New Black Lips video

Black Lips + Vivian Girls on the "Bruise Cruise"

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

"People under-estimate how much Black Lips play with balls."

From Pitchfork.com

"If you've ever wanted to see a dude in a lobster costume execute an earthshaking 360 dunk over a popular rapper, you just might get your chance on May 1. That's when Converse's Band of Ballers basketball tournament goes down in Atlanta. The three-on-three tournament includes Georgia rock bands the Black Lips and of Montreal, as well as rappers like Jay Electronica, OJ da Juiceman, Pill, Sean Price, Donnis, Shawty Lo, Jermaine Dupri, and defending champion Jim Jones.

Black Lips have pledged to donate the $5000 they'll make from the event to Auditory Verbal Centre, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to the rehabilitation of deaf children. They've also challenged the other participants to donate their fees to charity.

Both of Montreal and the Black Lips have made videos hyping up their participation in the tournament. Neither one should really fill anyone with confidence that either band will be able to take on the elite Jones Family team, which, according to MVRemix, features former Washington Wizards player God Shammgod. You do, however, learn that Cole Alexander calls himself "Crazy Craze the Nightmare Man", so that's something. Both of those videos are below."

My Top 5 CD's of the Year

Earlier in the day, Michael and I were discussing our favorite CD's that came out in 2009, we realized that this should have been posted a little before the year ended but we were hung over so we didn't really care. So here they are, my top 5 CD's that came out in 2009.

1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
I've already expressed my feelings about this CD. From start to finish it is amazing.
2. Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms
I literally got this CD a week ago and I can't stop listening to it. The whole vibe from the CD is happy. Every song flows so well together with a proper blend of mellow and moving music.
3. The Almighty Defenders - S/T
As soon as I found the mp3 of "Cone of Light" I was hooked. At the time, I didn't even know the Black Lips had something to do with, which in retrospect obviously made me like the CD more. The entire story behind the CD is amazing as well, it's a perfect CD to play when you're hangin' with the bro's and drinkin' some beer.
4. Deer Tick - Born on Flag Day
The moment I found the first song on this CD on myspace, I was craving more. Low and behold, the CD comes out and it absolutely amazing. "Straight Into A Storm" had me dancing like my cousins were getting married in Louisiana and the hidden cover of "Goodnight Irene" makes me want to crack a fresh Coors and zone out.
5. Wavves - Wavvves
I got this CD early in the year but I wasn't really into the lo-fi aspect. Then one day I went skating with this CD playing on my iPod and it was all down hill from there. I don't care that two of my favorite bands (Black Lips and Wavves) hate each.

starting the year off with a remix

I was originally going to post this song as a part of hip-hop month but couldn't find the mp3. NYE was whatevs, it was good to see some old friends, make some new ones and Michael even kissed a cutie chick with red lip stick. Fuck resolutions, hair cuts, bills, small pay checks, running out of cigarettes and redneck.
enjoy

my head hurts

Your nose is like a tower, like the one in Lebanon (Lebanon)
Your breasts are like two flowers, getting eaten up by fawns (fawns)
65 queens and 80 concubines (concubine)
Gotta keep you hanging around cause you gotta help drink my wine (wine)
And now you gotta stop

10 years ago this month,

being October of 1999 one of the best friends passed away, he was a yellow lab named Dusty. Sadly this is the only photo that I have of him other than the tattoo of him on my forearm. But here is a pretty sweet photo of a helicopter getting water out of our lake to put out some fire in the Indian Hills of Tehachapi, here I am with my stepbrother and Dusty, I'm rockin the tank top and sweatpants...

also RIP Bert
